From the Web: The many faces of Apple’s OS X applications

This is a piece I've been meaning to write since the launch of Tiger. Apple, STOP THE MADNESS!!!

"Long a hallmark of the Mac experience, major pieces of that consistency have been falling away slowly but surely as OS X and its applications evolve."

The many faces of Apple’s OS X applications.

"None of these differing interfaces is enough to make me consider another platform, of course. It’s just that I’d enjoy the experience that much more if the look of all the bundled applications were consistent … and don’t even get me started on Java’s different interfaces"

He actually forgot a couple, if you want to throw Dashboard in there, and the semi-transparent windows of the latest iPhoto.

There used to be one, and only one look and feel for the Finder and applications. Then came the Quicktime controller, and ever since, it seems like it's been "UI flavor of the release." The proliferation of a myriad of look and feels on OS X only serves to diminish and make confusing the whole user experience at times. It's nuts. It needs to stop.
